Two Girls Comforting Each Other at Group Discussion

Therapeutic Support to Help Students Succeed

Our UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks School and Transition Program offers individual and group therapies to our students with behavioral health challenges. To help students enhance their social and coping skills, our social workers and counselors use these and many other methods:

  • Bibliotherapy, or book therapy, which uses reading materials as part of therapy
  • Experiential role-playing and skill-building
  • Video work and discussion
  • Written work

Because therapy groups are sometimes together for an academic year or more, the groups can become a highly therapeutic and cohesive intervention in helping our students succeed through peer support and positive peer influence.
