  • Question: When should I see a doctor for knee pain?

    Answer:

See a knee specialist if you can’t bear weight, hear a popping sound or if the joint is visibly swollen. Also seek care if you develop redness, warmth, a fever or if pain doesn’t improve after several weeks of rest.

  • Question: What conditions can cause knee pain?

    Answer:

Knee pain has many causes, including acute injuries like ligament sprains, meniscus tears, ACL tears and fractures; inflammation from bursitis or tendinitis; and knee arthritis from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or gout.

  • Question: Will I need surgery for my knee condition?

    Answer:

Whether you need knee surgery depends on your specific diagnosis, the severity of your structural damage and how well your knee responds to conservative therapies. Your doctor will refer you to a knee surgeon if need be.

  • Question: How long does it take to recover from a knee injury?

    Answer:

Knee injury recovery takes one to three weeks for mild sprains, six to 12 weeks for moderate tears and six to 12 months for extensive surgical cases.

  • Question: What can I expect during my first appointment?

    Answer:

During your visit, your provider or knee specialist will ask about your symptoms, evaluate your range of motion and may order imaging tests like X-rays or MRIs. From there, you’ll discuss treatment options and create a care plan.

  • Question: How can I prevent future knee injuries?

    Answer:

You can protect your knees by strengthening surrounding leg muscles and glutes, maintaining a healthy weight and practicing proper form during activities.
