Students Thoughtfully Serving Hinsdale

Our UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale Junior Board fosters goodwill in the community. Created in 2006, this volunteer program helps high school students learn, grow and serve while building community awareness for our Hinsdale hospital.

Each school year, more than 100 students come together to learn about the hospital and build friendships with peers. Through this faith-based program, junior board members grow in leadership, participate in service projects and volunteer to support our community. A membership drive to join the Junior Board is held every summer.

    Volunteerism

Each year, the junior board staffs the hospital’s Ice Cream Social. This event provides multiple volunteer opportunities, including ice cream services, art projects and face painting.

The Junior Board will also participate in the Medical Mission Clinic, serving uninsured people.

    Service Projects

At Hinsdale Family Residency Medical Center (HFMC), the junior board members manage a diaper and wipe drive for families in need who seek medical care at HFMC — many of whom are single mothers. In 2022, we collected more than 150 packages of diapers and wipes.

Additionally, our junior board donated $25,000 to our hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit renovation in 2022.

    Leadership

Students appointed to the executive committee grow in leadership development. At this level, members learn event planning and strategy, how to manage volunteers and how to run meetings.

Junior Board Meeting Calendar

The Junior Board’s membership year runs from August 1 through July 31. Members must attend at least four meetings per year and participate in the annual Ice Cream Social.

Executive committee meetings are held before the general board meeting, which takes place the second Sunday of every month at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale in the regional board room on the fifth floor. If you have any questions, please contact our team at 630-856-2001.
